What We’re Cooking: Curly Dogs!

Curly Dogs

The hot dog. Plain. Simple. Juicy. Perfect. How could this American classic get any better?

Timothy’s dad spotted a Youtube video boasting the effects of cooking your hot dogs with a spiral cut. I believe the idea is similar to that of a waffle: the more edges you have, the greater opportunity for added crisp and flavor. We quickly coined this new-fangled odd-looking specimen the “Shirley Temple Wiener Ringlet” and decided to give it a go.

All you need
• Your preferred hot dog (we like Hebrew National & Nathan’s… duh)
• Wooden skewers
• Buns
• Condiments of choice
• A knife

Watch the video below for instructions on how to carry this out. The gentleman in the video has clearly cooked up spiral cuts more than once. He makes the procedure look a great deal simpler than it actually is.

The Verdict
We think we’ll stick with the good old fashioned, grilled out hot dog. The curly dog looked cool and was indeed crispier, but quickly eliminated the juicy bite that we believe is the real draw of a good hot dog. Give it a try for the novelty not the flavor.
